Carmel River Inn was built in 1934, with 14 cottages. The original name was Rio Carmelo Motor Court with carports, an integral part of the design, now acting as an outdoor patio. Over time additional cottages and a two-story inn was built with rooms and balconies overlooking the river. An Italian restaurant named Domenici’s was operated onsite from 1965 to 1974 and you will find vintage wine bottles aligning our trails leading to a fire pit made of some of the bottles.
Spread out on 10.5 acres we now have a variety of rooms and cottages for guests to provide a cozy, quiet respite from the rest of the world.
Carmel River Inn acts as a base camp to explore Big Sur or spend the day shopping and enjoying the local fare in nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea.
I have worked for large hotel corporations such as Hilton and Marriott and yes, I learned much from them and was trained in numerous aspects of hospitality, but it was only when I left the big corporate hotels for Carmel River Inn that I found Home. It is with a small inn, a personal owner, and a hand-selected team where I have found true pleasure in my work. I call it home and we treat our guests as they were visiting in my house.

A Good Night’s SleepOur clean, country-style rooms provide the perfect place to rest your head after an exciting day exploring the great outdoors. Overlooking a wooded grove and river, these rooms offer a quiet retreat for a good night’s sleep to prepare for the next day’s adventures.
The Inn Rooms feature either a King or two Double beds, a mini-refrigerator, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, and hairdryer. Seasonal outdoor pool.

Nestled throughout the 10-acre grounds of Carmel River Inn are the Cottages, each unique, yet all offering the same quiet getaway amidst the natural surroundings of Carmel Valley.
Guests can choose from a more rustic or newly-renovated studio cottage, studio cottage with kitchenette, or studio cottage with wet bar. All cottages have 32″ TVs or larger, down comforters, in-room coffee, mini-fridges, microwaves, iron/ironing board, and share a seasonal outdoor pool. Additional features are provided in some cottages, including: pet-friendly accommodations, gas fireplaces, private patios, additional beds, and sitting rooms.

Carmel River Inn offers two different experiences: our Inn Rooms, with their quiet simplicity and comfortable accommodations or our cozy cottages, with their rustic charm and modern amenities, tucked into 10 acres of gardens, forests and overlooking the Carmel River.
Situated on 10 acres of lush gardens and the scenic banks of the Carmel River, Carmel River Inn provides groups a one-of-a-kind experience and three beautiful outdoor event spaces to choose from. Groups from 10 to 120 guests can comfortably gather for ceremonies, receptions, dinners, reunions, and BBQs.
